In the Shadow of a Hoax is a reimagined fairytale with mistaken identities, royalty, and mysterious characters. Even fairytales traverse dark roads and face scary monsters, however. Tarley's story—while a romance—does focus on that happily-ever-after, but doesn't preclude her, and thereby the reader, from facing some very real and possibly disturbing obstacles. Tarley Fareview and her sisters live in a land dominated by men, where women are subjugated to them. There are several instances when agency is taken from Tarley by way of physical assault (no rape). None of these situations are graphically glorified. I have done my utmost to care for Tarley (and my readers) and hope any scenes are presented with that caution in mind. Please note, that given the fantasy elements, there are some dark creatures and a battle in the final act, depicting violence.
